Australia's New Data Centres Must Be Majority Renewable Powered, Says Minister The Australian government has made clear its commitment to reducing the country's carbon footprint by mandating that new data centres be majority powered by renewable energy.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen recently stated that companies like Beetaloo Digital, which plans to develop a 2 gigawatt data centre in Darwin using shale gas resources, will not meet the minimum national standards.

The proposed national standards require new data centres to build their own renewable sources of power rather than drawing from the grid.
